firefighters to the hospital. ktvu's rob roth is here and tells us it happened even though the firefighters did everything they were supposed to do. rob? >> reporter: frank, the fire engine involved in yesterday's accident is now out of service. you can see the dent in the bumper that was struck by an suv. that sent four to the hospital, three of them firefighters. >> reporter: the accident happened yesterday, firefighters responded to a car collision on highway 24. the cars were on the shoulder and the firefighters followed protocol. >> we have a procedure that requires them to park the engine at an angle to protect the scene. >> reporter: officials say ideally they would have had a second engine but with so many 911 calls the next closest engine responded to another emergency. >> we were extremely busy yesterday and we didn't have two engines for this emergency. >> reporter: 9:30 a.m. yesterday morning a car clipped the back of the fire truck, moments later a suv strucked the fire -- struck the fire engine. >> we will look at this incident and we will try to identify areas that we can improve
in a operation they have been working on for weeks. rob is there now where the man who runs that grow operation says police have it all wrong, rob? >> frank, behind this gate is a warehouse and police say inside that warehouse was a marijuana growing operation. now about 20 officers from oakland's crime reduction unit this morning raided the warehouse on edge water drive near oakland airport. they bagged marijuana plants they is a produced 20 to 30 pounds of pot a month or 700 plants. police also recovered approximately $40,000 in cash and 2 starter pistols. police arrested two men, one of them 63 years old. late this afternoon, a long time marijuana activist came by. he says he is the one running the operation. and he says they shut off the power and he went inside and saw the stems of the plant had been cut. he was trying to do the right thing and thought he has the right permits to run an operation for medical marijuana but police say he did not have the right permits in place. now that man says he plans on failing out the two men that have been arrested and he plans to call his lawyer. repo

concern over the issue of mental health. ktvu's rob roth is live where one organization is working hard to help young people suffering from mental illness. >> some parents are voicing concerns to protect their children from the world and protect the world from their child. >> reporter: she is a psychologist who works with teens and young adults with mental health. she says an early warning sign is isolation. >> struggling with depression or schizophrenia or a lot of anxiety. it gets in the way so this program is set up to help those individuals. >> reporter: the number of people suffering from mental health who become mass murderers is microscopic. a blog talks of her fears raising her 13-year-old son. she writes i live with a son mentally ill, i love my son but he terrifies me. they provide a host of different programs. >> if you have a young person and you are struggling with identity, depression or just worthlessness, really terrible ways to feel about yourself, to be ignored because people don't know what to do so they ignore you is one of the worst things you can do. >> reporter: e

for the burglary suspect put a preschool in cupertino on lock down. ktvu's rob roth has been updating us all afternoon. >> reporter: within the past half hour police called off the search for the third of three suspected burglars. the three men left their car in this parking lot. they ran through this opening and into the neighborhood. police quickly arrested two of the men. >> reporter: this is the car that the three men left in this shopping center. officers were trying to get the car to pull over for speeding. >> vehicle pulled over and sped off again. pulled into this parking lot. >> reporter: police say the men didn't wait for the car to stop before running away. >> the car was still rolling. they jumped out of the vehicle as it rolled to the stop. >> the men took off running into a neighborhood. police caught one suspect immediately. one neighbor saw to of the men -- saw two of the men. >> i was scared when i zootheism in the backyard -- when i saw them in the backyard. >> police arrested one and the other got away. authorities seeled off streets and conducted backyard searches. polic

coming from rob karr. he is a lobbyist with the illinois retail merchants association. he says the current minimum wage is "more than fair. it is really hard on retailers and depriving young people of job opportunities." what do you think about that? does he have an argument? > > no. none whatsoever. the minimum wage is not a liveable wage, so it's well below what would be a self-sufficient wage. secondly, there have been studies where the minimum wage has been adjusted to see if it actually creates job unemployment, and it has no effect. third, there's no evidence that it actually keeps young people from finding work. what happens is, employers can afford a small, very modest increase in cost. they can either pass that along to the consumer or not. but it in fact has no negative impact on unemployment. > there are studies that show if people do earn more, they spend more, and that could help the economy and create jobs. so why does corporate america not believe that? > > that's right, there are studies that show exactly that. and i don't think corporate america doesn't believe

to love mcnuggets. ♪ [ male announcer ] ready to rob your holiday cheer. joining us with information on how you can avoid holiday scams this season is credit counselor erica sandberg. erica, good morning. how are you today, and what is the latest in terms of scams that you're seeing this holiday season? > > good morning. of course, it is the holiday shopping season. people are online. they are looking for great deals. and this is where scamsters are going to focus their attention sometimes. so you really have to be hyper-aware as to whom you're buying something from and where you're sending your money. > in the aftermath of hurricane sandy, i know there were a lot of organizations that were ostensibly trying to raise money to help people. there was also kind of a concern about scammers there as well. are you familiar with that? > > yes. any time, literally, any time you are sending money, especially if you are sending cash and you're wiring it, you have to be so, so dedicated to checking out the organization or the person and making sure that all is as it should be. you have to take
. the church is now launched a fundraising campaign to pay for it. >>> criminals have robbed four pharmacies in just two days in pleasanton and dublin. brian flores is there now at a pharmacy that was hit. >> reporter: hi. the main question is if all the pharmacies that were robbed are related. no word from law enforcement officials. you are right. we are here at the 2800 block in front that have riteaid. it was robbed around 12:30 yesterday afternoon. there were also robberies at a pharmacy not to far from here. there was a third attempted robbery that may, or may not be related on dublin boulevard. then there was a 4th attempted robbery at a cvs off regional street. that was around 5:30 yesterday afternoon. its being reported that at least two men may be working together and hitting up the pharmacies. one of them would walk up to a pharmacist with a demand note. in these cases the pharmacists said no and then the men fled on foot without the drugs. no injuries or sign of a gun. one of the suspects is a white or middle eastern man with a beard. he is his mid-30s. witnesses say that he had a

.s. bank robbed in san leandro and police arrived just moments after he escaped. it happens tuesday evening just off east 14th street. a couple blocks from davis street. at about 4:00 in the afternoon a man in his 20s wearing a dark jacket and hooded sweatshirt walked into the bank handed the teller a note demanding money. >>> police need your help identifying a man suspected of robbing another u.s. bank about noon yesterday. this man seen in the surveillance video in an orange beanie and dark jacket demanded money from the teller. he did not show a weapon. suspect appears to be between 25-35 years old. and about 5'9"-6 feet tall. we are also learning about what led up to the shooting deaths of two teenage girls in oakland. the two suspects 18-year-old dee anita powell and antonio edwards were both arraigned in court. 15-year-old re kill and bobby were sitting with the suspects in a car before they were gunned down near brookdale park. the men had apparently gotten into an argument with the two teenagers. investigators say more than 30 rounds were fired. >>> your time is 6:18. another redwo

was robbed. this happened in a pretty busy shopping time. brian flores is live to tell us where the woman was when she was targeted. >> reporter: good morning. we're live at the sun valley mall. at this hour, concord police are looking for an armed robbery suspect that tried to take items from a woman here in front of the macy's parking lot at the mall. still very limited details. from what we understand, the robbery happened at around 7:30 last night. it's being reported that the woman was just arriving here at the mall when the robber pointed something. it's still not clear whether it was a gun or not, but he pointed it on the back of her head and demanded that she give him all of her money. she didn't have cash. she gave him her driver's license and credit cards. the robber pushed her to the ground and ran off into what is described as an older model light-colored small car. the woman ran into the macy's and called police. still very limited details as we mentioned on the suspect air -- suspect's car and his description. we have calls in to them. shoppers are warned to be very vigilant
